We had the great privilege of visiting Augusto Castillo and family the last week of February this year. The threat of a global pandemic was just simmering then. Looking back now, and with the reality of no travel any time soon, it makes this trip just that much sweeter. Warm hospitality, beautiful farms, and strengthening friendships are lasting memories that are just that much more cherished at the moment.
It is an honor to present you with the first of two lots sourced this year from the Castillos. This lot is from the farm Mira Cerros which sits just above their other farm, La Colomba. Augusto nicknamed this lot "the Roadrunner Blend" for the leggy speedsters that can be found on the farm. Towering and heavily forested mountain peaks surround Mira Cerros, while the Mexican border markers can be seen a stones throw away to the north. A stunningly beautiful setting for a beautiful coffee. As with last year's selection, you'll find brownie aromatics, malic and citric acidities playing nicely with each other, and loads of toffee sweetness. Wonderfully balanced, and we'll be drinking our fair share here at Sweet Bloom. Much thanks to the Castillo family for this lovely selection!
