Earlier this spring we had the privilege of visiting Adam Overton and Rachel Samuels at their Gesha Village Lab in Addis Ababa. Part of the reason for our trip was to find a competition lot for the US Brewers Cup, part was to build relationships and find for you some of the best coffees Gesha Village (and the world) has to offer. This first of three selections for 2019, lot 86, was a standout of table after table of standout coffees. It arrived here, perhaps even better than what we tasted at the lab. Let's just say this is very, very special coffee, and there was no sitting around scratching our heads for descriptors. Really, you could throw out all kinds of tropical fruit, citrus, melon and candy descriptors and they would fit - it is just that complex. What we settled on is watermelon, mango, lychee and a bubble gum. Pure, sweet, intense, deeply complex, and perhaps the best coffee you will taste this year.
So we tip our hat to Adam Overton and Rachel Samuels for creating something truly special and unique in the remote area of Bench Maji, Ethiopia. Their story is amazing, and so is their coffee.
