We taste

pomegranate, cascara, agave

...in this coffee.

As we continue to wait for our contracted lots from Central America to arrive, we are pleased to have found this gem come across our cupping table. Cerro San Luis is a family run micromill in the West Valley of Costa Rica, led by Alexander Delgado, and his sister, Magali.

Years ago they decided to pursue a route of specialty coffee by focusing on quality and we are grateful for this decision. They started to experiment with natural and honeyed processed lots and began to see higher cupping scores and success with this specialty market! Today, we benefit from their decision with this honeyed process catuai lot – it is tasty!

Fresh off the grind we are smelling berries and floral notes. In the cup, pomegranate persists from hot to cold and is joined by notes of cascara, raspberry, and milk chocolate, with an agave like sweetness completing this tasty, more fruit forward selection. If you’ve been longing for our fresh crop selections from Central America, your time has come!

We buy, roast, and sell coffee. On a surface level, this sounds simple enough. But buying coffee in a way we are proud of and in a way that those who buy our coffee are proud of is often complex, challenging, and hard work. We find ourselves on a continuum of buying and selling that progresses towards more sustainable, meaningful and equitable relationships. The chart below provides basic information for each lot on where we are on this journey.
