Israel Degefa

Our first natural from Ethiopia for 2023!

This product is currently out of stock and unavailable.

We taste

blackberry, lychee, white grape

...in this coffee.

For those of you who have been waiting patiently for our first natural from Ethiopia for the year, your time has come, and we’ve got a stunner to start out the season! Israel Degefa grows this beautiful coffee on his farm Bale Mountain, located in the Nensebo District of Guji, Ethiopia. He inherited this farm from his grandmother who saw and understood Israel’s love and passion for coffee.

We are delighted to be able to share Israel’s  beautiful coffee with you for our first time ever! Fresh off the grind we are smelling intense floral and berry aromatics. In the cup, we are tasting blackberry, tropical fruit notes like lychee, and a sweet white grape acidity throughout. We love naturals from Ethiopia that still exhibit flavors true to their terrior (not overridden by boozy dark fruit ferment), and this gem from Israel is a standout example! Enjoy!

We buy, roast, and sell coffee. On a surface level, this sounds simple enough. But buying coffee in a way we are proud of and in a way that those who buy our coffee are proud of is often complex, challenging, and hard work. We find ourselves on a continuum of buying and selling that progresses towards more sustainable, meaningful and equitable relationships. The chart below provides basic information for each lot on where we are on this journey.
