Karatu is a washing station in the central provence of Thika, near the town of Gatundu. Around 700 small scale growers bring their fruit to this station to be processed.

We are suckers for coffees with floral aromatics so when a coffee from Kenya jumps off the table saying "I'm floral", we pay attention. The lovely aromatics are followed by tangerine and cherry in the cup with sugarcane sweetness throughout. Karatu is not a power house Kenya with huge body and acidity, but it is wonderfully complex, suggesting at times flavor characteristics of both Ethiopia and Rwanda.
