We taste

red grape, starfruit, sugarcane

...in this coffee.

We are beyond excited to share with you our first ever lot from Bolivia! Natalia grows her coffee in the San Ignacio community of Caranavi and is part of a 100 member co-op called Bio-Arcoiris, whose focus is empowering women in indigenous communities.

Maybe it’s a bit weird, but one of the ways we begin to assess the quality of any given coffee sample is munching on the seeds just after roast. Honestly, one seed can tell you so much. Let’s just say it was hard to stop popping seeds from this sample, they were so good! It was evident, before we ever tasted the coffee itself, that we’d be purchasing this lot. Clearly Natalia and crew take great care in processing their coffee.

Fresh off the grind, the aromatics are deeply sweet and intense. In the cup we are tasting everything from red grape to starfruit. But what we find most beautiful about this coffee is the outstanding balance between sweetness, mouthfeel and acidity. Everything is firing on all cylinders and makes for a very complete and satisfying cup. If you’ve never had coffee from Bolivia before, jump on this opportunity!

We buy, roast, and sell coffee. On a surface level, this sounds simple enough. But buying coffee in a way we are proud of and in a way that those who buy our coffee are proud of is often complex, challenging, and hard work. We find ourselves on a continuum of buying and selling that progresses towards more sustainable, meaningful and equitable relationships. The chart below provides basic information for each lot on where we are on this journey.
