This year’s trio features coffees entirely from Central America, including a gesha from Mario Alarcon’s farm, Monte de Oro, an exclusive coffee to this box from producer Donaciano Martinez – Oaxaca, Mexico, and our Winter Bloom blend composed of two lots from Guatemala. You will find three very distinct profiles from delicate tropical fruit notes in Mario’s gesha, to the chocolaty and balanced Donaciano, to our full bodied Winter Bloom with notes of sugar plum, raisin and a hint of rum. Mario Alarcon

A gesha as part of this year’s trio? Why not?! We are excited to share with you Mario’s award winning gesha (2020 Good Food Finalist)! As with years past, the fragrance off the grind is intensely sweet with aromatics of bubble gum, flowers and even a hint of mint. First sips delight with a complexity of fruit flavors from raspberry to grape. As the cup cools you’ll also find a tropical fruit note like lychee. Combine all of these lovely flavors with a lively acidity balanced by the sweetness and medium-full mouthfeel, and you are in for one special treat!

Donaciano Martinez

We are excited to share this micro-lot (exclusive to the trio set), from Donaciano’s farm, Los Sauses (The Willows), high in the mountains of southern Oaxaca. Through the help of Caravela Importers, Donaciano recently discovered that his coffee can be sold as specialty at a much higher premium than he thought possible.

Fortunately for us, Donaciano’s coffee was included on the cupping table during a recent trip we made to Mexico, and we couldn’t pass it up. Off the grind we are finding a wonderfully sweet, dark chocolate fragrance. The chocolate carries over into the cup and is joined by dried fig and a caramel sweetness. Yummy, balanced and you’ll be thinking about cup two before the first is finished!

Winter Bloom

It’s the most wonderful blend of the year! Individually, the two coffees, both from Guatemala, are dramatically different. Augusto’s washed lot is toffee sweet with notes of apple and nougat. Jose’s honey processed lot is intensely aromatic with darker fruit notes and a rum like finish. Together, you’ll find a balanced, chocolatey, full bodied blend, with harmonious notes of sugar plum and rum raisin. Delish!
