We taste

blackberry, cherry, milk chocolate

...in this coffee.

We were so impressed with this natural processed lot from East Java that we’ve been using it as our natural component for Hometown while we await new crop arrivals from Ethiopia. Now, we are stoked to share this lot with you as single origin selection as well.

Mt Ijen is an impressive volcanic peak with a turquoise crater lake that emits sulfurous blue flames. The surrounding hillsides with their fertile soil make for excellent coffee growing conditions. It is fitting that such a complex and beautiful landscape also yields beautiful and complex coffee.

Fresh off the grind the aromatics are intense and full of dark fruit and mixed berries. There is a solid milk chocolate mid-tone to be found from hot to cold, with blackberry, cherry, and mission fig all vying for top note on your palate. If you love coffees on the fruitier side, then this gem from the land of blue flames is sure to impress!

We buy, roast, and sell coffee. On a surface level, this sounds simple enough. But buying coffee in a way we are proud of and in a way that those who buy our coffee are proud of is often complex, challenging, and hard work. We find ourselves on a continuum of buying and selling that progresses towards more sustainable, meaningful and equitable relationships. The chart below provides basic information for each lot on where we are on this journey.
