Augusto Castillo

Another stellar lot from Augusto Castillo!

This product is currently out of stock and unavailable.

We taste

toffee, red grape, marzipan

...in this coffee.

Augusto’s lot, from his farm, MiraCerros, represents our largest repeat purchase from an individual producer.  As with year’s past, we’ve worked to pre-pay for this coffee so that Augusto has money at hand when he needs it most. This year we pre-payed for the entire lot before it arrived and look forward to new ways in which we can partner with Augusto in the future. Over the past year he has shared with us both challenges faced and new initiatives he is working on to build the quality and productivity of his farms.

Once again, we are delighted to share with you Augusto’s coffee. This year’s lot is much like last year’s – toffee sweet, with marzipan and perhaps a bit more red grape than mandarin acidity. If you are looking for a go to comfort coffee for the cooling days of fall and first days of winter, Augusto has you covered.

Meet Augusto

A legacy of stewardship

The Castillo family has been producing coffee in Huehuetenango, Guatemala for over 100 years. In the last several years, Augusto and his father have taken over the stewardship of that century-long legacy. Their farms, Colomba and Miracerros, are located on steep hillsides at over 5,000 feet of elevation. This altitude, along with Augusto’s skill and care in growing and processing, are creating some of the finest Guatemalan coffees Sweet Bloom has ever been privileged to share.

We buy, roast, and sell coffee. On a surface level, this sounds simple enough. But buying coffee in a way we are proud of and in a way that those who buy our coffee are proud of is often complex, challenging, and hard work. We find ourselves on a continuum of buying and selling that progresses towards more sustainable, meaningful and equitable relationships. The chart below provides basic information for each lot on where we are on this journey.
