Alajuela, Costa Rica
Diego Guardia
A fruit forward banger from Costa Rica!
We taste
red wine, mission fig, blackberry
...in this coffee.
Diego’s farm, Hacienda Sonora, has been in his family for over a century. In the early 1970’s, his father Alberto took over running the farm and now Diego is leading the charge. Milenio is one of over twenty varieties grown on the farm. It is a hybrid from the prized Sudan Rume and an heirloom variety from Ethiopia called T5296. One would expect good results from such a pedigree! Milenio is known for its disease resistance, higher yields, and excellent quality when grown at higher elevations.
Fresh off the grind this naturally processed lot smells like mixed berries and red wine. The aromatics carry over into the cup and are joined by mission fig and a predominant blackberry note. If you love coffee with a fruit forward presence, this lot will be right up your alley.

We buy, roast, and sell coffee. On a surface level, this sounds simple enough. But buying coffee in a way we are proud of and in a way that those who buy our coffee are proud of is often complex, challenging, and hard work. We find ourselves on a continuum of buying and selling that progresses towards more sustainable, meaningful and equitable relationships. The chart below provides basic information for each lot on where we are on this journey.
