Oaxaca, Mexico
Hermenegildo Marin
A stunner from Oaxaca, Mexico!
We taste
white grape, peach, cherry
...in this coffee.
Hermenegildo has been cultivating coffee from an early age and inherited his parents farm, Árboles de Guajes, after they passed. Coffee growing remains a family endeavor. His sons help with pruning, planting, renovations, and shade control, and his wife, Aurelia, helps with harvesting and drying. In the past few years he has turned his attention to quality and his efforts are clearly paying off. We are grateful for our importing partner, Caravela, for introducing his coffee to us!
When Hermenegildo’s coffee hit our cupping table for the first time we were REALLY impressed. The flavors profile was fantastic for sure, but it was more the layered texture and elegant mouthfeel that made this coffee very complete and satisfying. Pleasingly sweet aromatics lead to notes of white grape, peach and darker fruit notes like cherry in the cup. These flavors are all wrapped up in a ringing malic acidity and silky textured layers. A tip of the hat to Hermenegildo and his fam, with hopes that this is the first of many years sharing his coffee with you!

We buy, roast, and sell coffee. On a surface level, this sounds simple enough. But buying coffee in a way we are proud of and in a way that those who buy our coffee are proud of is often complex, challenging, and hard work. We find ourselves on a continuum of buying and selling that progresses towards more sustainable, meaningful and equitable relationships. The chart below provides basic information for each lot on where we are on this journey.
