Johnny Alvarado

A sweet gem from Johnny!

This product is currently out of stock and unavailable.

We taste

caramel, star fruit, nougat

...in this coffee.

For three years now, we’ve offered a washed selection from Johnny’s farm Corazón de Jesus.  It is wonderful to see the success of the Alvarado family, growing coffee in a region of Costa Rica that isn’t known to produce high quality coffee.  Johnny, his family members and team, have worked hard over the years to improve all aspects of their coffee growing and production.  This has included building both their own wet-mill and dry mill.  Now they are not only producing high quality coffee, but some of the best coffee that Costa Rica has to offer.

This year’s lot starts with sweet caramel aromatics fresh off the grind. That caramel sweetness carries over into the cup as well and is joined by notes of star fruit, white grape and nougat. If you are a big fan of clean, sweet and balanced coffees, this gem from Johnny should be a go to through the rest of summer and early fall!

We buy, roast, and sell coffee. On a surface level, this sounds simple enough. But buying coffee in a way we are proud of and in a way that those who buy our coffee are proud of is often complex, challenging, and hard work. We find ourselves on a continuum of buying and selling that progresses towards more sustainable, meaningful and equitable. The chart below provides basic information for each lot on where we are on this journey.
