We taste

cola, raisin, honeycrisp

...in this coffee.

On a cupping table of beautiful pink bourbons, bourbon ajís, and an incredible lot of Nery Montilla, sat a sample from Jose Gonzales – an AA lot from his farm La Cristalina. One would think this sample would get lost against a table of incredible coffees but this gem from Jose held its own with deep sweetness, vibrant acidity and heavier body. It was a no brainer to include this lot in our most recent selections from Colombia.

Fresh off the grind the aromatics are intense and cola like. In the cup, a lovely dried fruit note like raisin, mingles with honey crisp apple, and a lovely malic acidity. If you like sweet, balanced cups with a moderate fruit presence, Jose should be a go to.

We buy, roast, and sell coffee. On a surface level, this sounds simple enough. But buying coffee in a way we are proud of and in a way that those who buy our coffee are proud of is often complex, challenging, and hard work. We find ourselves on a continuum of buying and selling that progresses towards more sustainable, meaningful and equitable relationships. The chart below provides basic information for each lot on where we are on this journey.
