José Hernández

A honeyed process bourbon lot from Antigua!

This product is currently out of stock and unavailable.

We taste

cherry, plum, nectarine

...in this coffee.

For years now we’ve been sourcing honeyed bourbon lots from José Hernández and his farm Santa Isabel on the outskirts of the beautiful city of Antigua.  Jose and his family have been running the farm for 25 years now and do much to help out the other farmers in the area.

If there’s one thing that consistently defines José’s coffee year after year it is the big sweetness, likely in part, due to the bourbon variety. We are thrilled that this year might just be the best lot yet!  Fresh off the grind the aromatics are sweet with ripe cherries and dark chocolate. Cherry carries over into the cup as well and is joined by other stone fruit notes like plum and nectarine. These flavors together with loads of sugar, vibrant acidity, and heavier body and you have a very complete, very satisfying cup of coffee. Enjoy!

We buy, roast, and sell coffee. On a surface level, this sounds simple enough. But buying coffee in a way we are proud of and in a way that those who buy our coffee are proud of is often complex, challenging, and hard work. We find ourselves on a continuum of buying and selling that progresses towards more sustainable, meaningful and equitable relationships. The chart below provides basic information for each lot on where we are on this journey.
