We taste

cherry, dark chocolate, rum raisin

...in this coffee.

For years now we have been purchasing lots from Truth Trading CO, which includes Mario Alarcon’s gesha, and the honey processed bourbon variety lots from José Hernández in Antigua, Guatemala. We are excited once again to offer José’s coffee from his farm, Santa Isabel. As with years past we’ve found this honey bourbon makes a great coffee for our blends (Migration and Winter Bloom) because of its fruitier cup profile. But this coffee stands alone quite nicely and is worth grabbing a bag to find out why.

The aromatics are fruity for sure and certainly hint at a fruit forward cup, but in a pleasant, not overbearing way. Fresh off the grind we smell dark fruits like red grape. The grape translates into the cup as well and is joined by notes of dark chocolate and rum raisin.  If you like coffees with lots of personality, José will make you happy.

We buy, roast, and sell coffee. On a surface level, this sounds simple enough. But buying coffee in a way we are proud of and in a way that those who buy our coffee are proud of is often complex, challenging, and hard work. We find ourselves on a continuum of buying and selling that progresses towards more sustainable, meaningful and equitable relationships. The chart below provides basic information for each lot on where we are on this journey.
