Kanzu

Kicking off the 2025 East African season with a red bourbon from the Kanzu washing station!

This product is currently out of stock and unavailable.

We taste

raspberry, pomelo, sugarcane

...in this coffee.

This is our eighth year offering lots from the Kanzu washing station and we are excited to kick off the 2025 season of coffees from East Africa with this tasty selection. The growers that bring their harvest to the station grow their coffee on small plots of land on the surrounding hillsides. With elevations rising above 1900m, and ever improving infrastructure, Kanzu continues to impress us with quality and consistency.

Just off the grind we are smelling sweet florals and hints of berries in the aromatics. The berry note presents as raspberry in the cup and is joined by a sweet pomelo-like flavor and acidity, all wrapped around a sugarcane sweetness from hot to cold. Juicy, sweet and a lovely example of the best Rwanda has to offer!

We buy, roast, and sell coffee. On a surface level, this sounds simple enough. But buying coffee in a way we are proud of and in a way that those who buy our coffee are proud of is often complex, challenging, and hard work. We find ourselves on a continuum of buying and selling that progresses towards more sustainable, meaningful and equitable relationships. The chart below provides basic information for each lot on where we are on this journey.
