Kanzu Lot #1
The first of two fantastic lots from the Kanzu washing station!
We taste
party cake, blood orange, cran-apple
...in this coffee.
This is our seventh year offering lots from the Kanzu washing station. The growers that bring their harvest to this station grow their coffee on small plots of land on the surrounding hillsides. With elevations rising above 1900 m, and ever improving infrastructure, the lots that come out of Kanzu continue to amaze us with quality and almost no presence of the potato defect (a defect prevalent in this region that can make your coffee taste like a tot – not cool).
Lot #1 impresses right off the grind with aromatics reminiscent of party cake. In the cup a lovely blood orange acidity mingles nicely with notes of apples and cranberries – all balanced with a deep honeyed sweetness and pleasant mouthfeel. If you are looking for a wonderful colder weather comfort coffee yet with its fair share of fruit complexity, Kanzu Lot #1 should be a go to!

We buy, roast, and sell coffee. On a surface level, this sounds simple enough. But buying coffee in a way we are proud of and in a way that those who buy our coffee are proud of is often complex, challenging, and hard work. We find ourselves on a continuum of buying and selling that progresses towards more sustainable, meaningful and equitable relationships. The chart below provides basic information for each lot on where we are on this journey.
