Kirinyaga, Kenya
Kiri
Our first offering from Kenya for 2023!
We taste
cassis, tamarind, luxardo cherry
...in this coffee.
We are always excited when fresh crop coffees from Kenya start to arrive from the main harvest and Kiri starts off the season with a bang! The Kiri washing station is part of the Ngiriambu Farmers Cooperative Society, a large co-op of over 3000 individual producers. Each producer grows their coffee on small plots (usually no greater than a hectare), and bring their ripe fruit to the station to be processed.
This specific lot ticks all the boxes for what we’ve grown to expect from the highest quality coffees from Kenya. Fresh off the grind we are smelling intensely sweet, dark fruit aromatics. In the cup you’ll find lovely and lively notes of cassis and tamarind happily mingling with sweet ripe cherry. The beauty of an amazing coffee from Kenya is the wonderful balance of bright fruit notes balanced by big sweetness and body, and Kiri delivers it all.
Transparency Information
We buy, roast, and sell coffee. On a surface level, this sounds simple enough. But buying coffee in a way we are proud of and in a way that those who buy our coffee are proud of is often complex, challenging, and hard work. We find ourselves on a continuum of buying and selling that progresses towards more sustainable, meaningful and equitable relationships. The chart below provides basic information for each lot on where we are on this journey.
Relationships Matter
