Matambo

Another stellar lot from Huila!

This product is currently out of stock and unavailable.

We taste

panela, pink lady, plum candy

...in this coffee.

Around 82 producers make up the Matambo group (named after a mighty mythical pre-Hispanic warrior).  This group grows their coffee in the surrounding hills near the town of Gigante in Huila.

Though we are moving into a season of fresh crop arrivals from Ethiopia and Central America, one reason we love Colombia is that you can find beautiful coffee from this country year-round, due to Colombia’s two harvest periods.  And this lot from Matambo is fresh and exceptional! Off the grind, you’ll find deeply sweet brown sugar-like aromatics. That sweetness is evident in the cup as well, and is joined by notes of pink lady and plum candy, balanced with a bright acidity and full body. Yes, this is the time we start to turn our attention to fresh crop from other parts of the world, but if you pass on Matambo, you will be missing out!

We buy, roast, and sell coffee. On a surface level, this sounds simple enough. But buying coffee in a way we are proud of and in a way that those who buy our coffee are proud of is often complex, challenging, and hard work. We find ourselves on a continuum of buying and selling that progresses towards more sustainable, meaningful and equitable relationships. The chart below provides basic information for each lot on where we are on this journey.
