Huehuetenango, Guatemala
Rudy Lopez
Our first offering from Central America for 2024!
We taste
baked apple, white grape, caramel
...in this coffee.
Coffees from Central America are taking their own sweet time to arrive this year. So we are extra happy to offer our first lot of 2024 from Huehuetenango in Guatemala. Rudy Lopez grows his coffee on his 6 hectare farm called La Joya. Through hard work, perseverance and careful farming practices, Rudy has become increasingly proud of the quality of coffee he grows – and he should be!
After grinding, we smell sweet chocolate and caramel. In the cup, there is a lovely balance of baked apple, white grape, cocoa and caramel, all mingling nicely with a lively malic acidity. If you’ve been looking forward to our 2024 Central American season, your time has come and its going to be a good one! Enjoy.

We buy, roast, and sell coffee. On a surface level, this sounds simple enough. But buying coffee in a way we are proud of and in a way that those who buy our coffee are proud of is often complex, challenging, and hard work. We find ourselves on a continuum of buying and selling that progresses towards more sustainable, meaningful and equitable relationships. The chart below provides basic information for each lot on where we are on this journey.
