Cajamarca, Peru
Velo de Novia
A first time offering from Peru!
We taste
mission fig, red grape, brown sugar
...in this coffee.
Our last offering from Peru for the season is another gem from the Cajamarca province. The growing group gets its name, Velo de Novia, from a beautiful nearby waterfall reminiscent of a bridal veil. Each producer in this group farms a small section of land, around 2.5 hectares. Lots are then blended and graded according to quality. This special selection is AAA quality which essentially means, it is really tasty.
Just after grinding we are smelling sweet chocolate and dark fruit aromatics. In the cup, tasting notes range from mission fig to red grape, and are all wrapped up in a brown sugar sweetness. No doubt this has been a great season for our offerings from Peru, and Velo de Novia brings the Peru season to a sweet close.

We buy, roast, and sell coffee. On a surface level, this sounds simple enough. But buying coffee in a way we are proud of and in a way that those who buy our coffee are proud of is often complex, challenging, and hard work. We find ourselves on a continuum of buying and selling that progresses towards more sustainable, meaningful and equitable relationships. The chart below provides basic information for each lot on where we are on this journey.
