A lovely comfort coffee selection from producer Vicente Diaz.

We taste

red grape, baking spices, cocoa

...in this coffee.

As with all our offerings this year from El Salvador, this specific lot from Vicente Diaz is from the pacamara variety (a cross between the Pacas and Maragogipe varieties first developed in El Salvador in 1958). Diaz grows pacamara, along with other varieties like Pacas and Gesha, on his farm El Derrumbo.

This year’s selection has chocolatey sweet aromatics fresh off the grind. Chocolate predominates in the cup as well and is joined by notes of red grape and a hint of baking spices.  With a heavier body and bright but balanced tartaric acidity, Vicente’s coffee falls into our classic comfort coffee profile. So stay in your pj’s, grab the fuzzy slippers, and snuggle up to another cup of Vicente.

We buy, roast, and sell coffee. On a surface level, this sounds simple enough. But buying coffee in a way we are proud of and in a way that those who buy our coffee are proud of is often complex, challenging, and hard work. We find ourselves on a continuum of buying and selling that progresses towards more sustainable, meaningful and equitable relationships. The chart below provides basic information for each lot on where we are on this journey.
