It’s the most wonderful blend of the year! Winter Bloom is back and as tasty as ever. Each year we create this blend to compliment the holiday season. Our hope is that as you gather with family and friends, your time is made that much more special with Winter Bloom in your mugs.

The base for this year’s blend is from our friend Augusto Castillo – Huehuetenango, Guatemala. At 60%, Augusto’s washed process lot brings sweet and balanced mid-tones.  To this, we’ve added a special natural processed coffee from Alberto and Diego Guardia’s farm, Hacienda Sonora, in the Central Valley of Costa Rica. The Guardia’s lot at 30% adds rich dark chocolate and plum notes. Rounding out the blend and building on its deep complexity is our anaerobic lot, Chelchele from Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia. At just 10%, the intensity of this coffee punches through and brings a wine-like acidity and hint of rum. Overall, you’ll find Winter Bloom to be rich, complex, chocolatey, deep fruited, and balanced – just the right coffee to share with those you love. Enjoy!

Meet Augusto

A legacy of stewardship

The Castillo family has been producing coffee in Huehuetenango, Guatemala for over 100 years. In the last several years, Augusto and his father have taken over the stewardship of that century-long legacy. Their farms, Colomba and Miracerros, are located on steep hillsides at over 5,000 feet of elevation. This altitude, along with Augusto’s skill and care in growing and processing, are creating some of the finest Guatemalan coffees Sweet Bloom has ever been privileged to share.

We buy, roast, and sell coffee. On a surface level, this sounds simple enough. But buying coffee in a way we are proud of and in a way that those who buy our coffee are proud of is often complex, challenging, and hard work. We find ourselves on a continuum of buying and selling that progresses towards more sustainable, meaningful and equitable relationships. The chart below provides basic information for each lot on where we are on this journey.
